Healing baths for babies - healing for mother and child

Heilbaden für Babys - heilsam für Mutter und Kind - Babyduft®

For me, bathrooms have always had something healing, comforting, and calming about them. I've turned down old apartments with stucco ceilings and Rieman parquet flooring because they didn't have a bathtub. I can't and won't imagine life without one .

When I was developing the relaxing bath (currently sold out) from the BABYDUFT sweet dreams line , I came across the baby healing bath according to Brigitte Meissner and I am enthusiastic about this method.

The baby healing bath can be a good first aid measure after a difficult birth to intensify the bond or to catch up on bonding due to a separation of mother and child.

The healing bath recreates the moment when the newborn is placed, still wet, on the mother's bare breast.

Catching up or repeating this moment is a very healing and calming experience for babies and mothers after a difficult start in life.

What is the process of a spa treatment?

  • A comfortable and undisturbed atmosphere is the basic requirement for starting the baby healing bath.

  • The room should be comfortably warm, the cell phone should ideally be turned off and everyone involved should not feel any time pressure.

  • If the baby is bottle-fed, the bottle should be prepared and placed next to the bed.

  • While the mother makes herself comfortable in bed, the partner or midwife bathes the baby for a few minutes. Ideally, this takes place in the baby bath or tub right next to the bed—or, if space is limited, in the bathroom.

Then place the baby naked and wet on the mother's bare upper body and cover both well with a bath towel and the duvet.

The baby must not be allowed to get cold under any circumstances. For many women, close skin-to-skin contact with a naked and wet baby is a very emotional and touching experience . It's similar to the situation in which a newborn lies on the mother's chest after a vaginal birth.

"This is exactly the moment that many women miss after a difficult birth experience."

It is also possible for mother and baby to bathe together in the bathtub and then cuddle up in bed, wrapped up warm.

The bonding bath can evoke strong emotions in mother and child , which must be acknowledged . Only then can the mother-child healing bath unfold its full effect.

Do you need a bath additive for the baby healing bath?

Immediately after birth, you should avoid using bath additives so that the baby can get used to the mother's scent in peace. In the days and weeks following, you can use the BABY SCENT sweet dreams relaxing bath . The rosy vanilla scent will comfort your child, and the minerals contained in pink Himalayan salt and rose quartz support the skin's natural functions.

When should a baby healing bath be used?

A bonding bath can, of course, be performed after any type of birth. It is particularly useful under the following circumstances:

  • Caesarean section

  • Vacuum extraction

  • Forceps delivery

  • fast or slow birth processes

  • after separation of mother and children after birth

  • if breastfeeding is difficult to start or if breastfeeding is generally difficult

  • severe baby blues

  • Postpartum depression

  • Absence of maternal feelings

When is it recommended to carry out the baby healing bath?

It can be performed in the first few days after birth or even weeks later . Ideally, mother and baby should receive support from a partner or a midwife. The baby healing bath can be repeated several times , allowing its healing effects to unfold optimally.

The following utensils are required:

Baby bath or bath bucket

Bath thermometer (the water should be 37 degrees)

fluffy bath towel (put clothes/diapers ready for afterwards)

Time and peace

Baby fragrance sweet dreams relaxing bath (currently sold out)

Many women find the baby healing bath, sometimes also called mother-child healing bath, trauma bath or birth bath , to be relationship-building and healing after a difficult birth.

Even if you may not be giving birth anytime soon, there may be someone you'd like to recommend this wonderful ritual to. It's so simple, yet so powerful.

I'll dive into my beloved bathtub.

Relaxed greetings

Ursula
