Valuable tips for colic and baby gas - fast and effective

Wertvolle Tipps bei Koliken und Baby Blähungen - schnell und wirksam - Babyduft®

Is your baby currently struggling with painful gas?

Stomach pain often causes sleepless nights for you and your baby, but how can you help your baby?

Three-month colic occurs in newborns during the first few weeks of life and lasts approximately three to five months . Babies often cry for several hours in the late afternoon or evening and are difficult to calm down.

Spoiler alert: Baby gas is nothing unusual and can be remedied with a few tricks. Infants' delicate digestive systems have to adjust to their new diet after birth – your baby will experience more gas in the stomach, known as "three-month colic."

Let's get to the tips against baby gas & 3-month colic

1. Warm your baby belly and relieve abdominal cramps

The simplest method is to warm your baby's belly. Warmth soothes and heals. For example, wrap your child in a sling or wrap and hold them close to you. Carrying your baby can aid digestion and relieve gas!

For additional support, many parents place a cherry or grape seed pillow on the baby's belly. It's important to never place the heated object directly on the baby's delicate skin.

A completely safe and very simple way to place a small pillow filled with warming sheep's wool is to place it on the tummy. Even our grandmothers knew about the healing properties of wool, and the great thing about it is that you don't have to heat anything. The "Bäuchlein-Wohl" pillow from Babyduft can be easily placed directly on the tummy and covered with a warm blanket, or simply secured with a romper.

A warm bath can also help relieve gas. It's recommended to check for organic quality and whether the bath is actually suitable for babies. You can play it safe with natural products from Babyduft.

2. Flying grip against baby gas

Another method to get rid of 3-month colic is to carry the baby in the so-called airplane hold.

How to use the airplane hold correctly: Place your baby lengthwise on your forearm so that they can see the floor and their head rests comfortably in the crook of your arm. Hold your baby with the same hand and massage their back with your free hand. Rock them a little or walk around the house; the unusual change of perspective also helps you forget about baby pain. The vibration also has a cramp-relieving effect.

3. Force kicking movement to encourage farting

Another method is to help the baby to let out the air by kicking . Many mothers also know this as “riding a bike with your baby” . Take your baby’s legs in your hands and gently and slowly press them towards your tummy until the thighs reach the baby’s tummy. Then, in this position, gently circle the legs. Then stretch the legs out again, as if kicking. Repeat the movements until you feel your baby release something. Do not do this directly after breastfeeding or giving a bottle.

4. Fennel tea promotes digestion

Fennel is a natural medicinal plant and has been used for centuries as a digestive and antispasmodic remedy. Fennel tea is therefore a natural remedy for your baby, providing soothing relief from stomach aches and gas. Please be careful, however, to control how much tea your baby receives:

Recommendations from midwives are:

  • Infants up to the end of the fourth month: a maximum of 50 milliliters of fennel tea per day , and only diluted. No more than 150 milliliters of fennel tea should be consumed in any 24-hour period.
  • Babies aged four to six months: maximum 100 milliliters of fennel tea per day , and maximum 250 milliliters in 24 hours.

Babyduft offers the sweet dream relaxation tea . In addition to fennel, it contains chamomile, which has a soothing effect on the stomach and mucous membranes, as well as hibiscus, which gives the tea a beautiful pink color and also has a calming and digestive effect.

5. Abdominal massage, a very effective way to relieve stomach pain.

What you need for the abdominal massage:

Massage with the flat hand

With this technique, you stroke your baby's tummy in a clockwise direction with your entire, flat hand. Apply very light pressure to allow any air and/or trapped stool to escape. Important: Always perform this technique in a clockwise direction.

I hope these tips have helped you get through this challenging time and made your life and that of your baby easier.

Your

Ursula
