Goldspatz - Make your own thyme balsam

This wonderfully golden balm was one of the first products I sold in my natural cosmetics store in Zurich. It was always a huge hit, and moms bought it often during the winter. Now I'd like to share the lovely recipe with you, because the dosage is especially important. Not every child of every age can tolerate the same amount of essential oils.
Therefore, I recommend using the macerate (oil extract) for babies up to 1 year old and only adding the essential oils in drop form from one year onwards .
Thyme not only smells wonderful, it also serves as a proven home remedy for coughs and colds. This popular herb has expectorant and antispasmodic properties and promotes circulation.
There is something peaceful about the preparation; I recommend you take a quiet moment when the children are in bed to make the balm.
for the balm from 0-1 year:
-
100 ml of calendula oil or St. John's wort oil (or both 50/50) – the benefit of St. John's wort oil: warming and brightening effects. Calendula: anti-inflammatory and analgesic.
-
20g fresh organic thyme
-
8-10g teaspoon of beeswax pearls* (available from pharmacies or beekeepers)
-
10g shea butter
-
dark glass container (longer shelf life due to light protection) - you can also fill several small containers and give a few away.
for the balm from 1 year
-
From 1 year you can add the following essential oils: Thyme linalool 3 drops, Cajeput 3 drops, Lavender fine 3 drops (I have been working with Primavera products for years).
-
from 3 years: 5 drops each
-
from 5 years: 10 drops each
the quick version :
Preheat the oven to 70 degrees Celsius. Wash the thyme, pat it dry, and finely chop it. Place it in a jar (without a rubber ring) along with the oil and set aside for
Place in a warm oven for 2 hours . Then, strain the delicately scented oil through a sieve or tea or coffee filter and mix it, while still warm, with the beeswax beads and shea butter until dissolved.
For a balm for children 1 year or older, you can now add the essential oils.
Then pour the still liquid mixture into a tightly sealable container and let the balm cool down.
The balm is wonderfully creamy and golden, your little darling will love it!
the gentler variant:
Add the washed and chopped thyme to the oil and let the active ingredients slowly and gently dissolve into the fatty oil for three weeks. Then repeat the process as described above.
Application:
If your little darling has a cough, sore throat, or a cold, this balm is very soothing. Rub it on your child's chest and back. The love, warmth, and affection will help them relax, and the comforting scent and your love will give them a sense of security. Your little darling will soon feel better again.
All the best and to the Golden Spätzli out there who have a cold, get well soon
Ursula
*I prefer it a bit creamier, so I only use 8g of beeswax. I also used a light beeswax this time, because the yellow one discolors the children's undershirts or bodysuits.
